New Members Guide

Everything you need to know to get started at Kingston Beach Golf Club.

Welcome

Welcome to Kingston Beach Golf Club

Situated overlooking the Derwent River at Kingston, south of Hobart, we offer members an 18-hole championship course and clubhouse with catering and bar facilities. Established in 1922, we're still on the same site — with an extensive golfing history and a community that genuinely loves the game.

We're fully affiliated with Golf Australia and share equal status with the three other 18-hole Metropolitan Clubs in Hobart. We also hold reciprocal arrangements with numerous clubs across Australia, so your membership travels with you.

New Member Kit

Your new member kit is available from the office. It includes:

  • A copy of From Tee to Green
  • Player bag tag
  • Access to the R&A Rules of Golf 2023 app (available from the App Store or Google Play)

Club Organisation

The club is managed by an elected Board. Office bearers are appointed for two-year terms at the AGM, held each November. Visit our About page for the current board and committee contacts.

Facilities

Lockers

Locker hire is $30 per year, invoiced with your annual subscription. Speak to the office to arrange.

Storage for buggies and golf clubs is available, subject to limited space. Speak to the office for availability and current costs.

Beginners Golf

Golf lessons are available at competitive prices through the Pro Shop. You can book online via the Pro Shop page or email proshop@kbgc.com.au.

We also have experienced club members who are happy to mentor new members as they find their feet. Talk to the Club Captains or Vice Captains to be connected with a mentor.

Practice Facilities

The practice range is open daily from 7:00am to 3:30pm (closing earlier in winter). Buckets of balls are available from the Pro Shop. You're also welcome to use your own balls before 7:00am or after range staff have finished collecting.

Competition Days

Competitions are held on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Women's specific competition days are Tuesday and Thursday. Week-long and Sunday competitions are also available — enquire at the Pro Shop.

Tee times are booked online through the member portal, up to two weeks prior to a competition. Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your tee time, check in at the Pro Shop, print your scorecard, and pay your competition fees before heading out.

Hacker's Club

The Hacker's Club is a group that runs an extra competition within the normal Wednesday Club event — a great way to add a bit more friendly competition to your round.

  • Life membership: $10
  • Weekly competition fee: an additional $5 per player
  • 75% of weekly fees returned to placegetters; the remainder goes toward minor course improvements
  • Annual Hacker of the Year Presentation

Contact the office to join.

Concurrent Competitions

Eclectic Competition

Available to 9-hole and 18-hole women. Runs concurrently with all women's events. Your best score per hole is recorded through the season, with a trophy awarded at year's end. There is a nominal fee to enter.

Super Pins

Runs concurrently with Wednesday and Saturday competitions. Talk to the Pro Shop for details and to enter.

Pennant

Pennant is the Golf Southern Tasmania inter-club competition, running from late February to early April. KBGC fields three women's teams and three men's teams, competing at courses around Hobart.

If you're interested in representing the club, express your interest to the Captain or Vice Captains.

Using Your Account

Keeping Up to Date

Day-to-day communication happens via email — make sure your contact details are kept current with the office so you don't miss anything.

There's also a display cabinet near the practice putting green with current information and results. Women members will find notice boards at the entrance to the women's locker room (left board: KBGC draws; right board: Golf Southern Tasmania competitions) and at the end of the locker room (sign-up sheets, results, and Gobbler sheets).

Volunteers

Volunteering is a great way to get involved and give something back to the club. We're always looking for people to help with:

  • Women's gardening group
  • Dad's Army working group
  • Handyman tasks
  • Course marshals
  • Mentoring new members

If you'd like to get involved, contact the office and we'll point you in the right direction.
